Welcome to MV PICCS (Motor Vehicle Prioritizing Interventions and Cost Calculator for States). MV PICCS is a web tool that helps you review the costs and benefits of different statewide interventions designed to prevent motor vehicle-related injuries and deaths. MV PICCS selects the most cost-effective combination of interventions for implementation under a given budget and user identified parameters. Currently, fourteen effective interventions are available for you to select.

Motor Vehicle Crash Death Rates in 2015

MV PICCS provides results specific to each state. To start your analysis, click on a state from the Map View or Table View tab.

Select the interventions you want to analyze, enter a budget, and then hit 'RUN MODEL'

Valid budget is a positive whole number with or without commas.
Use Fines and Fees
The Use Fines and Fees box means whether the money collected from violators should be used to offset the cost of implementation. If you do not select this box, the tool will only select those interventions whose implementation cost is less than the budget you provide.
Add Sensitivity Analysis
Sensitivity analysis allows you to change the default values for the percent reductions in deaths and injuries and the dollar values of saving lives and preventing injuries.
Run Model
Select All Unimplemented
This figure is multiplied by the number of injuries prevented to calculate the benefit of each intervention.
Valid injury prevention cost is a positive whole number with or without commas.
This figure is multiplied by the number of lives saved to calculate the benefit of each intervention.
Valid fatality prevention cost is a positive whole number with or without commas.
Reset Resets the sensitivity parameter values to default.

Intervention Lives Saved Injuries Prevented Cost to Implement infoThis is the total of all costs to implement the intervention, such as police time, equipment, publicity, and so forth Fines and Fees infoThese are the fines and fees paid to the state by violators Net Cost infoThis is the cost to implement minus the fines and fees,so it represents the net cost to the state. If the value is negative, it means that the state would take in more in fines and fees than it spends Benefits infoThis is the benefit from implementing the interventions

This table shows only the interventions that were selected for analysis. The interventions in bold italics and marked with an asterisk are not currently implemented in {{dshCtrl.current.state}}. The shaded rows are the ones selected by MV PICCS based on two criteria. First, only interventions whose net cost is less than the budget provided were selected. Second, interventions are prioritized based on their cost-effectiveness ratio, which is the benefit divided by the net cost.
